    Insane in the membrane?!

Why why why... do we think and do stuff we don’t want to?!

Our brains can run behaviours and give us mind states that seem counterproductive. Often operating beyond our conscious awareness.

    Why is it that way?

Our brains are pattern-making machines; for efficiency they create patterns to predict and navigate the world. While these patterns are essential for quick responses they can be “one size fits all” and lead to behaviours that aren't in our best interests e.g. one time you were laughed at in a school lesson and now you do not contribute your great ideas in meetings as your “keep quiet” pattern is running. Or maybe there is a habit that soothed you once and now it’s wired in as an addiction?

The brain's primary goal is to keep us safe, and it assesses safety by using it’s previously learnt patterns. While this protective mechanism is crucial, the brain doesn’t differentiate as much as is useful. It prefers the familiar pattern.. It's common to confuse the familiar with the beneficial. People can stay in destructive patterns simply because they are familiar.

Recognizing and breaking free from these patterns is the key to unlocking positive change in our lives. The good news is, our brains are malleable. We can intentionally rewire them for patterns that we prefer and still stay safe!

Cognitive hypnotherapy is a powerful tool to help break free from old patterns and create new, positive ones.
