What is Quest Cognitive hypnotherapy?
In our journey through life, our experiences shape us; our brains function as intricate survival machines, diligently ensuring our safety and survival by finding patterns in our environment and experience and using them to predict our future and how to act. Yet, this process can sometimes lead to mis-processing, resulting in undesired “programmes” within our capabilities, behaviours or mental state. Cognitive Hypnotherapy comprises a range of approaches designed to help release mis-processing and empower you to cultivate new behaviours, capabilities, and resourceful states of mind.
At Happy Life, I specialise in Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy, a model founded by Trevor Silvester – an esteemed author, practitioner, and trainer in this field. This approach challenges the conventional belief that hypnotherapy requires inducing an unconscious state for therapeutic change. Instead, we embrace the concept that trance is a natural part of our daily mental processes, accounting for about 90% of our experiences. Have you ever driven somewhere but can't recall the journey? Or searched for an item already in your hand? These are instances of trance, employed by our brains to automate functions.
So when you have an issue you don’t want in your life or you desire to level up in some way we approach this by identifying the trance that is at play and work with you to bring you out of that existing state into a chosen state where more resources are naturally available to you.
Hypnotherapy is not like the more traditional talk therapies where you see someone for a very long time, most people find that an initial 4-6 sessions can make a difference. Although it is also wonderfully therapeutic to have ongoing support over a longer period.
Therapy that works!
In September 2015 the Mental Health Review Journal compared Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy with national results for the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme and found that: In an average of six sessions, 71% reported themselves recovered, compared to 42% of people using other IAPT therapies.
